PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR ~ 2016

This year, Pantone decided to gift the design world with two Pantone Colors of the Year for 2016. The color authority chose the delicate Rose Quartz and the calming blue Serenity and while this news certainly isn’t the newest story on the block, I thought these images of interior spaces show just how beautiful these colors are when used thoughtfully and tastefully. Visions to Inspire~~

COLOR CRUSH ~~ BLUSH

Blush~~~

This pretty, whisper soft shade of pink can be found in many variations, from the dew-kissed petals of a pale pink peony to the almost iridescent shades on a seashell. It is a fresh, innocent color that is pretty without being too cutesy and it is an unexpected neutral that I am definitely crushing on.

WINNING WAYS WITH CHARTREUSE ~~

Chartreuse ~

It’s a vibrant, electric color. . . . .happy and versatile. Chartreuse is a color that is halfway between green and yellow. The spectrum of this color ranges from bright lime to light sulphur. Below, are some inspiring images showcasing some ways to use Chartreuse in your space. This vibrant color pairs well with so many different colors, charcoal gray, turquoise, indigo blue, to name a few. I love this color and I say, go ahead, dare to be bold!

AParkAvenueApt

Bold would certainly be an accurate description in this entry. Dramatic chartreuse, lacquered walls makes a stunning statement for sure.

HAVE A SEAT

Being able to carve out some space in your  home for an intimate seating arrangement is such a wonderful way to creatively make use of a space whether it is a bedroom retreat or a small niche on a stairway landing. I hope you enjoy some of these images that I came across at Luxe magazine.

HAVE A SEAT and become inspired……..

CreamColored Settees1

Here a pair of cream-colored settees are nestled just so along the curve of each wall. A beautiful Fortuny-like chandelier hangs dramatically over the round table that is flanked by a couple of benches for another spot to linger.

Zebra-printWingChairs2

What a cozy retreat to read a book or enjoy an after-dinner Cognac. A very organic vibe has been created by marrying texture and pattern, as seen in the zebra-print wing chairs with classic nailhead trim.

MasterBdrm3

A beautiful Master Bedroom sitting area with French doors leading to a balcony overlooking the backyard. What a lovely spot to sip your morning coffee and let your mind wander over the days events.

ConsoleDivides4

A console table helps to divide a seating area with a pair of oversized sofas.

LakeviewSeating5

Here, a small seating nook was created on the outskirts of a great room with spectacular lake views, which must have been used as inspiration for the ombre-style drapery fabric.

AGatheringRoom6

A gathering room with neoclassical architectural details that have been paired with pieces that pay homage to 20th-century styles such as the 1970s mirror and the contemporary lounge chairs that reference the Art Deco era.

SittingRoomEntrance7

A sitting room at the entrance of the Master Suite has been flanked with thick bookshelves, creating a small library.

YELLOW IS FOR HAPPY

Happy Yellow…..it is the color of the mind and the intellect. Being the lightest hue of the spectrum, the psychology of yellow is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. It is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism. Using yellow in home decor is a wonderful opportunity to bring freshness and energy to a space and for fashion, a bright, yellow outfit may help bring a spirit of perkiness or renewed confidence.

With a little understanding about the psychology of  the color yellow, let’s see how we can be inspired by this primary color.

PINK IN EVERY ROOM ~~~

An Atlanta Home Boasts Colorful Florida Style ~

Interior Designer Katie Rosenfeld

Being a fan of this bold shade of pink, I immediately became intrigued with Katie Rosenfeld’s client, which she dubbed, “the pink lady”. Her client wanted pink in every single room of her house. No doubt, concessions were made. After all, how many men want a home swathed in pink? The golf-loving dentist struck a deal with his attorney wife. He said, “OK to all the pink in exchange for unlimited golfing privileges”. The one caveat from the husband, the design couldn’t be “sissyish”.

Katie Rosenfeld made sure that wouldn’t be the case by mixing a variety of red, hot pink, peach and orange shades with colors and patterns that pushed the design to upscale Florida rather than ultra-feminine.

102164024_wcrop

A very bold use of color and pattern in the living room.

102164015_wcrop

Vibrant wallpaper punctuated with bright pops of white, helps break up the large patterned wallpaper by giving the eye a place to rest.

102164017crop (1)

Painting traditional, chinoisserie-styled chairs brings a modern, fresh feel and contrasts nicely with the stained finish on the dining table. Don’t be afraid of painting stained wood finishes, it can always be stripped and stained again. I think it reinvigorates traditional pieces and creates a welcome contrast.

102164007crop

I love the use of a bar cart off to one side of the dining area and this gold-leaf cart from World’s Away showcases glassware, china and other bar necessities quite nicely.

102164014_wcrop (1)

Certainly not afraid of color in this Butler Pantry space. Lots of wonderful storage space for silverware, serving pieces, linens, china and glassware.

102164019_wcrop

The Family Room takes a more mellow approach to the vibrant hues used throughout this home. Love the mix of modern with traditional as well as the use of Asian-inspired pieces seen in the upholstered coffee table and the console/sideboard piece.

Modern mixes with traditional. Love the Saarinen classic tulip table with the chinoisserie influenced chairs.

Absolutely love the steel doors.

The Mudroom. How fun is this wallpaper. Being a dog lover/animal lover, I am totally loving it. We don’t have mudrooms here in Orange County, CA, but this could be so fun in a laundry room.

102164022_wcrop (1)

Love this chandelier. The green crystals so perfectly reference the green used in the artwork. Perfect.

102164043_wcrop (1)

The Master. Lot’s of white with pink, red, orange and green and the black and white animal print rug is the perfect “neutral” among all the color.

A very unique lighting fixture in the Master Bedroom.

The Master Bath. More of that Happy Green, it’s from Benjamin Moore  and a very fun wallpaper. Makes me happy. I think if you went to bed grumpy, you would surely feel differently once you entered the bathroom.

REMEMBERING ~~ MAYA ROMANOFF

When it comes to decorating, most people settle for wallpaper. Richard “Maya” Romanoff, who passed away on January 15 at 72, offered what can only be described as wall experiences. I have long been a fan!!

2bfbc141ccbc73c9314a79f04c540278

After getting his start in the late 1960s by making tie-dyed T-shirts to sell at a Rolling Stones concert, the American entrepreneur brought his talents to other materials by establishing the Maya Romanoff Corporation. Based in the Chicago suburb of Skokie, the award-winning firm specializes in handmade wall coverings with alchemical special effects, impregnated with shimmering mica or mother-of-pearl, spattered with fine glass beads, or inlaid with laser-cut marquetry.

FOR THE LOVE ~~~ PAISLEY

This organic, tear-dropped shaped motif might conjure images in your mind of the 1960s and 70s, but the pattern is centuries old. The paisley pattern is thought to have originated in Iran during the Persian empire somewhere between 224 and 651 AD.

The name paisley comes from the Scottish town of Paisley. From around 1800 until the 1850s, Paisley was famous for the colorful shawls produced by its weavers. Because of a special edition to their handlooms and Jacquard looms, weavers in Paisley could produce the design with five colors while other weavers were limited to two.
