PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR ~ 2016

This year, Pantone decided to gift the design world with two Pantone Colors of the Year for 2016. The color authority chose the delicate Rose Quartz and the calming blue Serenity and while this news certainly isn’t the newest story on the block, I thought these images of interior spaces show just how beautiful these colors are when used thoughtfully and tastefully. Visions to Inspire~~

SHARED BEDROOMS

I’m sure there has been a time in most everyone’s life when we’ve had to share a bedroom. It may have been during one’s childhood, a college dorm room or as a guest at a friend’s house. Whatever the circumstances were, careful planning and design will certainly help ensure a positive outcome. Here are some very inspiring spaces with impeccable design from guest rooms to fun-filled children’s rooms.

FAVORITES FOR THE BEDROOM NIGHTSTAND

When space is tight in a bedroom, I find the desk/nightstand trend a great solution for small space design. It is a great dual-functional surface that saves on valuable space while keeping necessities at hand. Here are 8 of my inspiring favorites from Domino.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

It is hard to believe, here it is the 4th of July! My gosh, where is this year going? We don’t have any special plans this year for the holiday, and quite frankly, that is just fine. I am finding that I prefer to stay close to home, having a little barbeque with family. In years past, we could easily be found down at the Dana Point Harbor, boating and enjoying a day on the water until the sun set and then watching the firework display from the barge that is anchored just outside Doheny State Beach, but those days are over and quite honestly, I am more than fine with that. It was loads of fun when my, now grown children, were younger, but over the years, the harbor has gotten more and more crowded and once you are there, you are definitely committed to staying there the entire day. This means you better get there early and be prepared to get home after midnight…..the traffic is abominable!! Anywho, whatever your plans may be, I wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th! Red, White and Blue….be inspired……

16 INSPIRING WAYS TO USE BLUE

A Little Bit About the Color Blue

Did you know that blue is the overwhelming favorite color? Well it is! Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable and committed. The color blue is considered the least “gender specific” color and has an equal appeal to both men and women. It is the color of the ocean and the sky and it is perceived as a constant in our lives. It is the color of the spirit and it invokes rest and can also cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming. Here are 16 beautiful ways that blue has been used in these interior spaces…..inspiring ways, for sure…..

HOW TO COLOR GREEN: 16 INSPIRING IDEAS

Green, I love the color. It is the color of balance and harmony. It is the color of growth, the color of spring, of renewal and rebirth. It is the color that I readily associate with the Month of March. It renews and restores depleted energy. Green promotes a love of nature, a love of family, friends, pets and the home. It is the color of the garden lover, the home lover, and the good host……honestly, no wonder I love this color. For heaven’s sake, why wouldn’t you? Anywhoooo…….it is a fabulous “neutral” to use in your interiors, as you will see. While Pantone declared it their color pick for the year 2013, it is certainly not a passé color, by any means. I hope you enjoy these Visions to Inspire.

LIVING SPACES

What a statement this sofa makes in all of its Emerald glory. Clearly this space is a family space and I love how the bookshelf has been styled. Keeping each shelf organized by color, makes for such a pleasing and cohesive way of organizing, it’s like moving around the color wheel.

In this space, shades of blue seem to be the predominate color, and, then, it’s punctuated with a pop of green, in something as simple as a pouf.

KITCHEN AND DINING SPACES

Doesn’t this space just make you happy? And, that island, in glorious Emerald, it’s the pop of color that just says WOW. What fun!

Green, in all of its varying shades, from the painted diamond shapes on the hardwood floor, to the table and hutch, to the stoneware.

MOODBOARD MONDAY ~~ #6

Moody Monday Moodboard Musings

Happy Monday to everyone. I hope that everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We started our 4th with our ritual visit to the Dana Point Harbor for bagels. Of course, our beautiful Vizsla, Duke, accompanied us. Enjoyed a lovely walk around the harbor and enjoyed seeing how many of the boat owners had decorated and set up “party” tables for the long days’ celebration. And, it is a long day of activities. As we made our way around the harbor, many of the activities were already well under way. One of the July 4th “rituals” is the “water fight”.  Dinghies, kayaks, SUPs, and outriggers galore, power up with all kinds of buckets and water guns and the “water fights” get under way as all the reveleries celebrate and enjoy  being doused. Knowing how crazy it can be in the harbor during the 4th, we know to escape its fury and frenzy sooner, rather than later……so we relaxed at the pool at the Monarch Beach Tennis Club, came home and grilled some steaks, followed by a little peak-a-boo view of fireworks from our backyard. Usually we have foggy skies and don’t get very crisp, clear fireworks…..but, this year, the clouds parted and we enjoyed a beautiful fireworks display…….and no traffic to deal with…..Happy, Happy!!!!
