When I saw this home in the recent issue of House Beautiful, my first impression was WOW, which was then followed by a huge smile. To learn more about how designer Gary McBournie and Bill Richards arrived at the happy color scheme of saturated blues, oranges and yellows for this 1940s ranch house in Nantucket, be sure to read all about it here.

PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR ~ 2016

This year, Pantone decided to gift the design world with two Pantone Colors of the Year for 2016. The color authority chose the delicate Rose Quartz and the calming blue Serenity and while this news certainly isn’t the newest story on the block, I thought these images of interior spaces show just how beautiful these colors are when used thoughtfully and tastefully. HOME TOUR ~ KATIE KIME

I first came across this article written by Rebecca Dalzell and photographed by Genevieve Garrupo in Lonny and it just made me smile. I was so inspired by her fresh take on design that I had to share her very inspiring home in Austin, Texas. Katie Kime is someone who sees the world as though you were on a merry-go-round ride around the color wheel. Traveling has been a great inspiration for her, from bright Moroccan poufs, Obami embroidery or Turkish kilims. “Color in these countries is so bright and bold and fearless, pink with orange, red with pink.” Katie Kime’s home is filled with bright, bold patterns and whimsy. Her interiors website and brand began in 2013 and now, she has expanded to a brick-and-mortar showroom in Austin, Texas.

FAVORITES FOR THE BEDROOM NIGHTSTAND

When space is tight in a bedroom, I find the desk/nightstand trend a great solution for small space design. It is a great dual-functional surface that saves on valuable space while keeping necessities at hand. Here are 8 of my inspiring favorites from Domino.

SOPHISTICATED UPPER EAST SIDE ~ HOME TOUR

This pristine Upper East Side home belonging to Dr. Clifford Hudis and Jane Hertzmark Hudis, the global president of Estée Lauder, bears the minimalist stamp of its designer, architect Lee F. Mindel of the Manhattan firm Shelton, Mindel & Associates. “Mindel was struck by the city view when he first toured the two-bedroom residence, located on the 12th floor of a new building and boasting a pair of breathtaking terraces.”  Mindel was inspired by moody skies and the rooftops and façades of the surrounding buildings and from that, envisioned the interiors as an abstract panorama of grays.

Have a lovely weekend and, if where you are is anything like here in sweltering, tropical, humid and hot Southern California where we have been feeling the misery of Tropical Storm Linda off the coast of Mexico for this entire past week, then you have my deepest sympathy. Try to stay cool and I hope you have enjoyed these…….

HOME TOUR ~~ HERMOSA BEACH, CA

Interior designer, Lynn Pépe had a client that presented her with a jewel in the rough. It was a Hermosa Beach, California Mediterranean-Style home on a half-acre lot with a stunning view of the Pacific along with the rare perk for this densely populated South Bay  beach town, privacy. Initially, the designer’s client wanted to remodel just the kitchen and bathrooms in the circa 1980s faux Mediterranean-style home. But, the designer had an ‘unabated passion’ for the homes potential. The designer’s guts and tenacity won her client over, and as a result, the residence had undergone a complete remodel, ‘almost down to the studs’. Let’s take a tour of this beautifully remodeled Mediterranean-style home with Moroccan touches.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

It is hard to believe, here it is the 4th of July! My gosh, where is this year going? We don’t have any special plans this year for the holiday, and quite frankly, that is just fine. I am finding that I prefer to stay close to home, having a little barbeque with family. In years past, we could easily be found down at the Dana Point Harbor, boating and enjoying a day on the water until the sun set and then watching the firework display from the barge that is anchored just outside Doheny State Beach, but those days are over and quite honestly, I am more than fine with that. It was loads of fun when my, now grown children, were younger, but over the years, the harbor has gotten more and more crowded and once you are there, you are definitely committed to staying there the entire day. This means you better get there early and be prepared to get home after midnight…..the traffic is abominable!! Anywho, whatever your plans may be, I wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th! Red, White and Blue….be inspired……
