FRIDAY FLORALS ~~ FALL INSPIRATION

FALL INSPIRATION

Here in Southern California, the fall season is slowly trying to make a break through. Our mornings and evenings have actually been a little brisk and dare I say, chilly?? But we’re not quite ready to pull on the sweaters or light the fireplace. 🙁 We certainly aren’t experiencing the triple digit temperatures of over a week ago, but it does, nevertheless, still climb into the low 80s during the day. I am very thankful that there does seem to be a bit of a cooling trend and I am optimistically hoping for temperatures to continue dropping towards the low 70s. As we embrace our fall season, I wanted to share some lovely fall floral inspiration with you and there is even a link at the end of this post on how to make the Cinderella Pumpkin Centerpiece. 🙂

FRIDAY FLORALS AND RANDOM THOUGHTS

Hydrangeas ~~~

HYDRANGEA, another flower favorite. They have been cultivated in western gardens since the first American species were brought to England in the 1730s. Hydrangea macrophylla, the common, big-leaf hydrangea has been known by gardeners in its native land of Japan for many hundreds of years and grown in its many forms. There it has been treasured not only for the beauty of flowers and foliage, but also used as an herb, certain serrata forms having long been popular to create a sweet herbal tea. In the West, the large-leaved Hydrangea macrophylla intrigued French plant breeders at the turn of the last century. A few, like Lemoine, Mouillère, and Cayeux began raising new seedlings and charming the public with the beauty of young pot plants in full bloom, with their large, domed heads of pink, blue or white flowers. And, did you know that the potted hydrangea is almost a symbol in France of Mother’s Day???? I did NOT…..always learning something new…..OEU LA LA!!!

FLOWERS ~~ THE PEONY

THE MEANING AND SYMBOLISM OF THE PEONY

With a recorded history that dates back thousands of  years, it is not surprising that even the mythology surrounding the origin of the peony has multiple versions. One legend has it that the peony is named after Paeon, a physician to the gods, who received the flower on Mount Olympus from the mother of Apollo. And, another tells the story of that same physician who was “saved” from the fate of dying as other mortals by being turned into the flower we know today as the peony.

The traditional floral symbol of China, the state flower of Indiana, and the 12th wedding anniversary flower, peonies are known as the flower of riches and honor. With their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage. (Source here.)

The story behind the flower is full of intrigue and certainly rich in symbolism, but the fact is, I absolutely adore this flower and it is at the top of my list of floral favorites. Just recently, I picked up a small bouquet of pink peonies at one of my go to shopping spots, Trader Joe’s along with a small bouquet of white Lisianthus. They are simply arranged and sitting on my kitchen counter, where they make me smile when I see them at the beginning of my day.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR ~~ FLORALS & SILVER

JUST THE OTHER DAY,

I was re-visiting some of my Pinterest Boards for inspiration, and, my gosh, I was amazed at how many “Pins” I have accumulated. You tend to forget what all you have “pinned” over time. It is a bit like pulling out old photo albums…..sitting quietly, maybe with a cup of coffee or tea, and slowly savoring each image. Specifically, I was looking for floral/tablescaping ideas for Spring. Anyhow, each image is like a “little surprise gift”. Wellllll, I happily saw this image that I had saved from Stone Gable. What a delightful find. I will be back to visit often.

I love the tulips in the silver pitcher. Honestly, what a lovely way to use your silver, because, quite frankly, how many times do you put your silver water pitcher on the table to actually use it for ‘water’???? I have to say that I love, love the silver pieces that I have inherited (with exception to the polishing task that goes along with it). All that aside, I totally embrace ‘new’, ‘creative’ uses for these pieces, because, after all, silver is best when it is used.

SILVER & WHITE

I, so love the white with silver, it is simple, but elegant.  And the display looks even more beautiful when paired with a simple silver bowl that has been topped with a handmade nest which can be crafted  here. I hope this inspires you to creatively use your silver……Enjoy!!!!
