SHADES OF WHITE

Ordinarily, I enjoy making color decisions, however, this time around, I am having such a difficult time. I am currently in the process of re-doing our Master Bedroom and while the preliminary design decisions have been made and the fabrics selected, I am down to making a decision on paint. I am taking the color palette and “feel” for our bedroom in a completely different direction. I have wanted to go much lighter for sometime now as my design aesthetic has changed for the space. I have been loving all the neutral, creamy whites and soft grays. These shades just seem to work so nicely for a serene yet elegant bedroom and this leaves me with the dilemma…….which one do I pick. As we all know, there are many, and I mean MANY shades of white and, honestly, it’s just WHITE, RIGHT??  All that said, I’ve started to (sort of)  narrow it down. Next up, I’ll do what I always tell clients to do and that is…….

MITCHELL GOLD + BOB WILLIAMS ~ CELEBRATE SILVER

My Saturday mornings typically start off with a yummy breakfast, prepared by yours truly or, enjoyed at one of our favorite breakfast spots. And, it is always enjoyed with my favorite Saturday Home and Garden section of the Orange County Register. Recently, The Register caught up with Gold and Williams during their Orange County visit at their South Coast Plaza store. I especially loved their tips on “What Makes A Comfortable Home” and thought it would be fun to share a few of their tips along with a few Mitchell+Gold vignettes of some of their furniture, art, lighting and accessories.

PicMonkey Collage-GoldWilliams

  1. Take lots of pictures of family and friends (they are great to send with a thank-you note or with an email to someone or framed in your home).
  2. Let your pets and kids get up on the furniture. No room should be off limits. Encourage lounging.
  3. Clear the clutter – declutter your rooms and closets and you’ll feel better and more relaxed. I couldn’t agree more!!
  4. Include a variety of seating options in a room so your guests and family will always be comfortable (for example, some people prefer a more upright seat that’s easier to get in and out of; some prefer a lower seat).

5. Chairs should have an occasional table next to them so there’s a place to rest your drink.

1291-005T_AV1

6. Put your lights on dimmers – people look better in dim, soft light. YES, YES!!

7. Have the appropriate storage for all your needs

8. Make your bed every morning and teach your children to make their beds. It makes you feel neater. (I have been preaching this FOR LIKE EVER, HELLOOOOO!!!!!)

9. Invest in the little luxuries like good sheets and towels – they will make a daily difference.

10. Furnish your home for comfort first – in the living room, start with the sofa. Measure your space carefully and then go with one that is truly inviting.

11. Think about the purpose of a room before decorating it – that way you’ll have a space that really suits the purpose of where you live.

12. For a sense of calm, limit the colors in a room and use no more than three or four with at least two being accents.

13. Love your imperfections. We’d rather things be relaxed than perfect. That’s why we like our leather furniture with distressing. It gives a piece character and gets better with age.

14. Rotate your accessories. No reason to have to put everything out at once. Keep a closet with all the extras. Don’t over accessorize. Things look best in groups of threes and fives – odd numbers are more interesting.

15. Install blackout curtains so you can sleep in when you want to. 🙂

THURSDAY THOUGHTS ON TABLE DECOR ~~ HALLOWEEN ~~~

Halloween. . . . .

It’s that one night that I can remember looking back on with fond memories and much delight. It was always so much fun to plan what “we were going to be” for our one night of running around with boundless energy……Trick o’ Treating from door to door. Of course, there was ALWAYS at least one house in the neighborhood that would pull out all their tricks to make their home THE ONE that everyone couldn’t wait to see!!!!!

I have always loved all of the creativity and decorating that centers around this one night….no wonder that this is second to Christmas for decorating…..While it is a night that children adore and parents sometimes abhor……planning something that’s a little more adult oriented can be especially nice when your “children” are pretty much grown up, on their own, or with families of their own. Whether an empty nester or not, planning something for adults to enjoy can still be another wonderful way to bring friends and neighbors together for a night of “Spooky Elegance”……

Hope the following images give you some ideas for Table Decor that leave you feeling INSPIRED…….TRICK O’ TREAT……

Love the simple use of letters printed on cardstock and displayed in apothecary jars. Displayed on a sideboard or entry table, it makes a bold “holiday statement” when paired with black and white botanicals!!!

FRIDAY FLORALS ~~ FALL INSPIRATION

FALL INSPIRATION

Here in Southern California, the fall season is slowly trying to make a break through. Our mornings and evenings have actually been a little brisk and dare I say, chilly?? But we’re not quite ready to pull on the sweaters or light the fireplace. 🙁 We certainly aren’t experiencing the triple digit temperatures of over a week ago, but it does, nevertheless, still climb into the low 80s during the day. I am very thankful that there does seem to be a bit of a cooling trend and I am optimistically hoping for temperatures to continue dropping towards the low 70s. As we embrace our fall season, I wanted to share some lovely fall floral inspiration with you and there is even a link at the end of this post on how to make the Cinderella Pumpkin Centerpiece. 🙂

MY FALL FOCUS AND PUMPKIN PRETTIES~~~

I know I’ve fallen by the wayside with any sort of blog post lately, but, I’ve had some technical issues that left my dead in the water. Honestly, it is soooooo frustrating…….all of a sudden my computer just failed to cooperate. It was acting up…….slowing down……not loading email…….and then it just FAILED. There I was, completely helpless, stuck, and at the mercy of my IT guy. And where was my IT guy? And, who is my IT guy? Wellllll, he was away on a “business trip”, which wasn’t really a “business trip”, but more like a road trip with the “guys”. And…..the road trip was on “bikes”, the motorcycle kind. UGH!!!! 🙁 Anyhow, the “IT guy” is, of course, my husband, and, much like the story of the cobbler and his family, computer issues are simply pushed aside, only to be addressed when “time” permitted. Well, I’m back in business, so to speak and I must admit, I’ve felt rather uninspired and unmotivated lately. As I sit and read through the many different blogs that I enjoy, I see a common theme that resonates throughout, and, that seems to be a welcoming embrace of FALL. I see the images, I hear the words…….chill, crispness, brisk. Awe, so wonderful……how lovely. Oh, how I wish I could enjoy those words describing FALL. Here, in Southern California, we are held in a death grip of one heat wave after another. 🙁 🙁 90 degrees, 100 degrees, 80 degrees, back up to 90 degrees, and on and on it goes. I am just so SICK of it!!!!! I want to be able to indulge in all that is FALL, Hot Pumpkin Spiced LattesCashmere Scarves, Boots, Umbrellas (that are actually used for rain protection instead of sun protection), bowls of warm chili and cornbread, snuggling in bed under warm blankets and fluffy comforters. I love FALL and it has been particularly hard to feel inspired to embrace this season because it doesn’t exist here with all our HOTTNESS!!!!

Soooooo, I’ve turned my enthusiasm for FALL and the FALL season to Pinterest. I love Pinterest and have  pinned countless images that inspire. With that in mind, I thought, my goodness, I am going to take a look at my Pinterest boards for some Fall Inspiration. While I can’t control the weather, I can, sort of, live vicariously through my FALL pinnings with a focus on PRETTY PUMPKINS~~
